It would be terrific if we were all wealthy enough to be able to afford bespoke (custom-made) shoes, wouldn't it? And I might as well ask for the leprechaun cobbler (shoe-maker, not fruity dessert) while I'm at it.

I have endured a lifetime of footwear heartbreak: My feet are healthy, yes, but wide with a high instep, a fairly narrow heel, and stubby toes. Picture Hobbit feet without the extra fur.

A few years ago I was at a friend's house and decided to rearrange the wrought-iron patio furniture with the little toe on my left foot—just before taking a late-May trip to Washington D.C. Whether it was broken or merely sprained I don't know, but the painful swelling necessitated accommodating, hot-weather-friendly footwear: I decided to try the Chaco Z/2 sport sandal with the Terreno sole, the predecessor to the lighter-weight Unaweep sole now offered.
